Werk 4.0

From conventional production plant to resilient competence plant through Industry 4.0

The concept of resilient production implies major changes compared to current operational practice. Based on various necessary technical innovations, it initially means a restructuring of the organization. Based on the DevOps concept developed in the software industry, this restructuring is based on the idea that development, planning, implementation and production are no longer organizationally separate, sequential or partially parallelized, but that these functions are jointly designed and managed from start to finish (E2E). In this way, production should acquire the necessary competencies to introduce and implement changes itself on the basis of its current status and thus be able to react better to external influences. The goal of the sub-project of EKS InTec GmbH is the creation of an end-to-end networked plant data model for the digital twin and the digital shadow of the plant in the context of the resilient competence factory, which is the basis for continuity between the lifecycle phases (planning, step-by-step design, simulation, virtual commissioning, start-up and full-scale production). This increases digital transparency in production. The integration of the companies involved in the overall process must be taken into account (supplier integration). Central data storage must therefore not be a prerequisite in this context. The focus is on changes and the necessary versioning, as well as adequate configuration management and data checks that ensure the usability of the data. The aim is to increase resilience in production and efficiency throughout the entire plant development process and plant operation.

The Werk 4.0 research project is funded by the European Union and supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
